1 introduction
For the development of the Prince Albert website, we are proposing a choice of two options – a custom-developed solution and a WordPress solution.
Each comes with its own pros and cons, which you will need to consider before making a decision.
Custom Development
A custom solution will enable us to build the website to suit your exact needs with no limitations. Future expansion and development will be possible as we have full control over the environment and the code for the website.
Future expansion could be adding additional functionality or turning the website into a mobile app.
The major drawback of custom development is the higher cost of development.
WordPress
WordPress is an open-source solution that takes the development work out of a project. Instead, it makes use of themes and plugins that are installed in order to create the functions that we require on the website.
The downside to a WordPress build is the possibility of limitations to functions and future expansion. We are confident that we can build the current functions as required but cannot guarantee that future functions will be possible within the WordPress framework.
The upside of WordPress is that it requires less work and is, therefore, lower in cost.
2 custom development
LOGIN / REGISTRATION / PASSWORD REST – 16 Hours
PLANTS – 16 Hours
The admin should be able to load plants:
- Plant Name
- Photos
- Description/Text
- Plant Location – there will be 3 areas and you should be able to load it to more than 1 area
- Plant Family – this will probably be a drop-down selection that’s pre-filled in
On the front-end, the user must be able to view all plants and then filer/search by name, location, and plant family.
BIRDS – 8 hours
The admin should be able to load birds:
- Bird Name – English name, Afrikaans name, and scientific name
- Photos
- Description/Text
The user must be able to view all birds and then search for them by either of the 3 names.
GALLERY – 8 Hours
This will be a photo and text gallery that the admin can manage. Load, edit delete.
Users can view the gallery on the front end.
Q&A / FORUM – 48 Hours
Full online forum function to load user-generated posts/images and the ability for other users to comment.
GEOLOCATION: – 1 Hour
This will be a static page with around 10-20 images and text.
HOME PAGE: – 4 Hours
This will be a static page with a bit of info and links to the various sections of the website. Basically an overview of everything.
3 wordpress development
WORDPRESS THEME:
We’ll make use of an online store theme and disable the shopping cart function in order to display Birds and Plants on the website and be able to filter them by category.
FORUM Q&A:
WPForo is a free forum plugin that can be used to facilitate user questions and answers on the website. This should provide us with the basic functions we require but additional plugins may be needed for additional functions. These plugins may come at an extra cost.
ADDITIONAL PAGES:
The rest of the pages will be created using the standard method of building pages in WordPress.
LABOUR:
40 hours. This includes the setup of the entire website and the Plants, Birds and Forum sections.

Custom Development:
R85 850 ex VAT
R500 per month for shared server hosting on AWS
WordPress Development:
R27 500 ex VAT
*These costs include loading 10 plants and 10 birds to the website. An additional fee will be charged to load the rest.
